We are pitting our heroes, Steve and Alex, against the hostile Ender Dragon and Wither as we play chess like never before with the Minecraft Chess Set from Noble Collection!
Mighty Minecraft!
Minecraft has become an obsession in our house. Our 9 year old is a cube-world creating master, and he regularly gives us a tour of these elaborate worlds he has created replete with sweet Sniffers (aww cute!) and mardy Mobs!
He is also a big fan of Chess and has plans to be the next Grand Master! So when these two worlds collided courtesy of The Noble Collection, he almost exploded with excitement!
As more of an abstract gamer than a video gamer myself, I am more than happy to leave the online gravity defying play to his dad and jump into a game of King toppling set in his favourite world instead!
And this set does not disappoint!
Top Tier Quality!
From the modular acrylic 18″ board to the chunky 32 vinyl pieces (which rise up to 4″ in some cases!), this set has incredible production value. The light side (the Overworld Heroes) comprise Steve and Alex, as well as , each made to look like marbled stone with bright emerald detailing. In contrast the dark Hostiles (including the underling are made to look like they have been forged from creepy Obsidian and Red Stone.
The Board has that iconic grass border known anymore who has ever seen anything related to Minecraft and the main pieces and edge click together with ease. There are also some nice additional metal looking nameplate which finish the set off nicely.
Fan Favourite!
For fans of Minecraft and chess, this is an ideal combination. And we aren’t the ones who think so – the set has been collecting accolades this year following its release:

With a hand disability , I appreciate the tactility and unusual shapes of these pieces – regular smooth pawns are tricky for me to hold. And, although I am the least familiar with the specific characters in Minecraft, I am able to make out which piece was which during our games – although in our first game working out which was the King and Queen on each side took a quick rulebook check.
And although our son needs no encouragement to get further into the world of Minecraft, this has redoubled his dedication to making me his mate, checkmate that is!
